Vacation Blog #1

Well, my little family and I have finally started off on our first official family vacation. It’s exciting, and we’re gonna see a lot of friends, family, and new places. Our first stop was Big Bend, WV, which is where I am currently at as I’m writing this post. We left our home in southern NJ at 4 am on March 19th. We wanted to leave at 2 am, but well, you know how that goes. Here are pictures of us all piled up on the truck and finally hitting the road!

We ended up driving until 2 pm. We hit traffic, had to stop three times, and just generally made kind of slow time. The trip was actually supposed to take us only 8 1/2 hours, but well, again- you know how that goes. We went through a tunnel somewhere between Delaware and Maryland:

We also went straight through Baltimore, Maryland- home of the latest Super Bowl Champions the Ravens! I thought that was pretty exciting since I rooted for the Ravens.

Then, we went through the western portion of Maryland, which had some absolutely breath taking scenery! I never knew that Maryland had so many mountains, or cows, or farms, and I had visited multiple times before!

Then we got excited because we had finally reached West Virginia! Of course, we were still a good three hours drive outside of Big Bend, but we were nearing the last portion of our first long drive.

Then we finally made it to Big Bend, which just so happens to be a little bit town in West Virginia with a whopping population of around 500 people. The whole town is pretty much nestled inside of the mountains, which I love, and is home to a food store and a post office. I was super excited to see Daddy & Sharon, and Lord knows Vikki Beth has been MORE than excited to see her Grandma and Grandpa! One of our biggest adventures yet was our hike this morning. We went up the hill right by their home, and we saw this old dilapidated home, along with a tiny cemetery! Apparently, in West Virginia it is completely legal for you to bury your loved ones in your yard…yes, even to this day. Here’s some pictures of everyone walking, along with a picture of the home and the three graves:

The coolest thing is that Boo has totally found herself a brand new best friend. His name is Lucky, and he just so happens to be my Daddy’s dog. Lucky is about 8 years old, and he’s been my Daddy and step momma’s dog since I was about 14-15 years old. He’s a great dog, but I was really surprised at how well he not only tolerated Boo but how much the two of them really connected in the way that only a dog and a preschooler can. Check them out! 🙂

Well that’s it for our first two days on the road! Tomorrow is Easter, and my baby sister and her new husband will coming over to Daddy’s for supper. Then Bobby, Boo, and myself are going to be following them back to their place where we will be until around 2 am Tuesday morning! So I’ll update in another day or two! Have a Happy Easter, stay safe, and have fun!
